2016 19th Rounder Cornish Suspended 50 Games

Gary Cornish, the Mets 2016 19th Rounder out of the University of San Diego was suspended today after using Amphetamines, which under MLB guidelines is considered a performance enhancing drug.

The suspension is effective immediately and will ban him from pitching in the first 50 games of the minor league season.

Cornish was a senior sign who pitched in Short-Season A Brooklyn and posted a 2.16 ERA in 14 appearances, spanning 25 innings and striking out 44. He was slated for A-Ball Columbia or A+ St. Lucie for 2017.

The right handed reliever uses a three quarter arm slot to produce a 90-94 mile per hour fastball and also has a breaking ball that hasn’t completely defined itself yet.

We’ll see how Gary bounces back from this in the future…

Nice K to IP rate in Brooklyn. Too bad he got popped…

50 games in the minors is a fair chunk of the minor league season.
