So, to add to the “ugh” news of the day starting with Seth Lugo having a slight Ulnar Collateral Ligament Tear, is unfortunately Thomas Szapucki being diagnosed with a Shoulder Impingement according to MLB.com.

For now, the lefty starter will rehab the impingement in St. Lucie, but there currently is no timetable on his return. When he does return, he will join Columbia’s already talented rotation.

Szapucki already has a history of injuries, with back stiffness curbing his stellar season last year, and with the impingement, he definitely is not on the right track. Though this is the same injury as what has sidelined David Wright, I would not draw conclusions, due to the fact that Wright is dealing with much worse health issues than young Szapucki.

But Szapucki is as talented as anybody in the system, so this is still a large loss. To see the profile on this pitcher, click here.

We at Mets Templar Prospects wish him a speedy recovery. We want to see him dominating.
